BISCUITS AND GRAVY
Ingredients
1o ounces Italian sausage of choice (I use one package of Abbott’s)
1.5 tablespoons vegan butter (I use Earth Balance)
⅓ cup flour
About 2 to 2.5 cups of full fat oat milk (I use the dark blue Oatly)
One package of pop and bake biscuits (I use Immaculate Baking)
Optional: Red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning mix
Recipe Notes
Gravy is best reheated in a pan over medium low heat, stirring in a few splashes of additional milk or water to thin the sauce out. Biscuits are best reheated in the oven or toasted oven on 350 until heated through. Or you can just call it a day and heat both up in the microwave.
Method
Serves 2-4, easily doubled
Preheat oven and cook biscuits according to package directions.
Heat a healthy drizzle of cooking oil ( in a large saucepan over medium heat and add the full packet of Italian sausage, stirring occasionally until lightly browned
Add ⅓ cup flour to the pan and stir, cooking for a few minutes
Add in 1.5 cups oat milk and stir
Cook down until gravy is thickened, continue to add oat milk until gravy consistency is to your liking (I usually end up using 2-2.5 cups of oat milk)
Optional: stir in red pepper flakes, or additional salt and pepper, or Italian spice mix until flavored to your liking. I usually add a healthy sprinkle of Italian seasoning, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Serve gravy over biscuits once baked
